MonoList Guide

Step-by-step instructions for the things you'll do most in MonoList.

Lists

Create and reorder lists

  1. Tap the + button on the home screen.
  2. Give the list a name and, if you like, one or more emoji as its icon.
  3. Tap Create.
  4. Press and hold a list, then drag it to the place you want.

Tasks

Create, edit, complete, and delete tasks

  1. Open a list and tap the + button to add a task.
  2. Enter the task text. The field stays open after you add a task, so you can add more straight away.
  3. Tap the circle to mark the task as done. Tapping the task text opens its details instead.
  4. In the details, you can edit the task text and add a note or reminder. The three-dot menu also offers quick editing and deleting.
  5. Press and hold the task text briefly, then drag it to the place you want.

Notes and reminders

Add context when a task needs it

  1. Tap a task to open its details.
  2. Add a note. Your changes are saved automatically.
  3. Turn on Reminder and choose a day in the calendar.
  4. You can also set a time. Without one, MonoList reminds you at 10:00.
  5. Turn off the reminder to remove it. MonoList needs your device's permission to send notifications.

Theme and language

Adjust appearance and language

  1. Open Settings from the icon in the top right, then choose General.
  2. Choose English or German under Language.
  3. Under Display, you can let MonoList follow your system appearance or choose a theme.
  4. You can also choose whether done tasks are shown and turn notifications on when needed.

Export and restore

Export your data

  1. Open Settings and choose Data Management.
  2. Create a readable JSON export for interoperability, or choose encrypted export for a private backup file.
  3. If you encrypt the file, save the passphrase carefully. MonoList cannot recover it.
  4. Store or share the file using your device's own share sheet.

Restore from a file

  1. Open Settings, then Data Management, and choose Import Data.
  2. Select a MonoList JSON export or encrypted .mlbackup file.
  3. Enter the passphrase if the file is encrypted.
  4. Review the confirmation carefully. Restoring replaces the lists and tasks currently on your device.

App Lock

App Lock uses your device authentication. MonoList does not receive raw biometric data.

Protect opening the app

  1. Open Settings and go to Backup & Security.
  2. Under Security, turn on Require authentication to open the app.
  3. Authenticate with Face ID, fingerprint, or your device passcode to confirm.
  4. MonoList will require device authentication when you open or return to the app.

Automatic encrypted backups

Configure snapshots

  1. Open Settings and go to Backup & Security.
  2. Turn on Automatic backups.
  3. Enter a backup passphrase and keep it somewhere safe. MonoList cannot recover it.
  4. Then choose where to save them: in the app, an Android folder you select, or iCloud Drive on iOS.
  5. MonoList writes encrypted snapshots no more than once every 24 hours while the feature is enabled.
  6. Use Back up now to create one immediately. Below that, you can restore, share, or delete snapshots.
  7. Restoring a snapshot replaces the current lists and tasks on your device.

Voluntary support purchases

Support without locked features

  1. Open Settings and choose Support MonoList.
  2. Choose a one-time support amount if you want to help fund development.
  3. The purchase is handled by the App Store or Google Play.
  4. Support purchases unlock no features, remove no limits, and do not change how your task data is handled.
