Terms of Service

These Terms of Service apply to the MonoBudget mobile application, developed and published by Michael Guggenberger.

1. Scope

These terms apply to your use of MonoBudget, whether you use the free version or have unlocked MonoBudget Pro. By downloading and using the app, you accept these terms.

2. Description of Service

MonoBudget is a personal finance app for managing income and expenses for one or two people in a household. By default, the app stores your financial data locally on your device. There is no MonoBudget user account and no MonoBudget server for your financial data. MonoBudget Pro users can optionally enable encrypted automatic backups to a destination they choose.

3. Usage Rights

By downloading MonoBudget, you receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app for private purposes on your own devices.

4. MonoBudget Pro

MonoBudget Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase. It unlocks additional features, including a second person, advanced analytics, the Fair Split calculator, and automatic encrypted backups. Purchases are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play and are subject to their respective terms and refund policies.

5. No Financial Advice

MonoBudget helps you record and review your own financial data. It does not provide financial, tax, or legal advice. Any decisions you make based on the data shown in the app remain your responsibility.

6. Liability

MonoBudget has been developed with care. However, errors, interruptions, or incorrect calculations cannot be fully excluded. To the extent permitted by law, liability for damages arising from use of the app is excluded; mandatory statutory liability remains unaffected.

7. Data Protection

Our Privacy Policy applies. By default, MonoBudget stores your financial data locally on your device. Data is only transferred if you export it yourself, send us a support file, complete an in-app purchase through Apple/Google, or enable the optional encrypted backup feature.

8. Changes to these Terms

Michael Guggenberger may update these terms where required for legal, technical, or organisational reasons. The published version in effect applies.

9. Governing Law

Austrian law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Mandatory consumer protection rights in your country of residence remain unaffected.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains which data this website and the MonoBudget mobile application process, what it is used for, and which rights you have. The controller is Michael Guggenberger, Straßganger Straße 58, 8052 Graz, Austria.

1. Controller

The controller for MonoBudget is Michael Guggenberger, Straßganger Straße 58, 8052 Graz, Austria. You can contact us by email at info@miguapps.com. No data protection officer has been appointed because there is no legal obligation to appoint one.

2. Visiting this website

When you visit this website, the web server processes technically necessary access data so that the site can be delivered, operated reliably, and protected against misuse. This may include your IP address, date and time of access, requested URL or file, amount of data transferred, status code, referrer URL, browser, operating system, and user agent. The website is hosted by Vercel Inc.; the region configured for this website is Frankfurt am Main, Germany (fra1). As part of operating the service, delivery through its global edge infrastructure, security, support, and error analysis, Vercel may also use affiliated companies and subprocessors. This may involve processing outside the EU or EEA, in particular in the United States. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the secure and reliable operation of the website under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Vercel processes technical access data as part of providing, securing, and delivering the website under its own contractual and privacy terms. The data is stored only for as long as required for operation, error analysis, and security, and is then deleted or anonymized unless longer retention is necessary due to a security incident or legal obligations.

3. Contact by email

If you contact us by email, we process your email address, your message, and the related technical communication data to respond to your request. This may include sender and recipient address, subject, message content, attachments, sending and receiving times, and technical email metadata. We use Apple's iCloud Mail as our email service provider. Apple may process personal data under its own privacy terms; depending on the processing, data may be transferred outside the EU or EEA. Depending on the content of the request, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where the communication relates to pre-contractual or contractual matters, or Article 6(1)(f) GDPR based on our legitimate interest in handling requests. Emails are deleted once they are no longer needed to handle the request, unless legal retention obligations apply.

4. Local storage by default

MonoBudget stores all data you enter, including people, categories, income and expense sources, entries, notes, and settings, locally in a database on your device. The purpose is to provide the budgeting features of the app. The legal basis is performance of the app service under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. By default, MonoBudget does not operate a server for your financial data; we do not see or receive it.

5. Optional encrypted backup (MonoBudget Pro)

MonoBudget Pro includes an optional automatic backup feature. If you turn it on, MonoBudget encrypts a snapshot of your data on your device using a passphrase only you know before writing it to a destination you choose: your device only, iCloud Drive on iOS, or a folder you select on Android, which may itself be inside a cloud provider such as Google Drive. The purpose is backup and restore. The legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. We do not operate these storage locations and cannot access your backups. Your passphrase is not sent to us. If you lose it, existing backups cannot be recovered.

6. Manual export and import

You can manually export your data to a file and import it again at any time. You choose whether to protect the export with a passphrase (encrypting it with the same technique as the automatic backup feature) or to export it as an unencrypted JSON file. These files are created and shared by you through your device's own features. We only receive them if you actively send them to us, for example as part of a support request. If you encrypt an export and lose the passphrase, it cannot be recovered.

7. In-app purchases

MonoBudget Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Payment processing, store accounts, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms and privacy notices. To unlock Pro, MonoBudget processes purchase-related technical information such as product ID, transaction ID, and verification status. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

8. Permissions

MonoBudget may request notification permission to remind you about upcoming fixed costs. If you enable the optional App Lock, MonoBudget uses the device's Face ID, fingerprint, or passcode authentication. The app does not receive raw biometric data; it only receives whether authentication succeeded.

9. No ads, no analytics tracking

MonoBudget and this website contain no advertisements, no analytics tracking, and no third-party tracking scripts. We do not collect data for marketing or analytics purposes. The website only sets a technically necessary language preference cookie named NEXT_LOCALE to store the selected language (German or English) and deliver the appropriate language version. The cookie is stored as a session cookie and is deleted when you close your browser. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a user-friendly multilingual website under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. No non-essential cookies are set.

10. Retention and deletion

Local app data remains on your device until you delete it in the app, remove the app, or your device deletes it. Using "Delete all data" in the app also removes your automatic backups at the destination you configured and clears the stored encryption key, on a best-effort basis; a destination that is offline or no longer reachable at that moment, and export files you have already shared out of the app, remain under your control at their storage location. If you send us data for support, we use it only to handle your request and delete it once it is no longer needed, unless legal retention obligations apply.

11. Recipients and international transfers

Recipients may include in particular Vercel Inc. as hosting and CDN provider, Apple as the provider of iCloud Mail and iCloud Drive, and Apple and Google where this is required for website operation, communication, app store purchases, operating system features, or backup destinations you choose. If you use iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or another cloud provider, that provider's own terms and privacy notices also apply. Depending on the provider, processing may take place outside the EU or EEA; this is governed by the applicable contractual terms, privacy terms, and safeguards of the provider.

12. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. Because MonoBudget does not receive your financial data by default, many of these rights can be exercised directly in the app, for example by exporting, editing, or deleting your data. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, including the Austrian Data Protection Authority.

13. Contact
